St Minver 2

Gunnislake 2

THIS fixture brought together the sides that, at the start of the day, occupied first and second in the division — the home side topping the league by four points having played a game more than their opponents.

St Minver started the brighter and were on top in the opening 15 minutes. However, Gunnislake came more into the game and forced a good save when Lee Underwood got his head to a Neil Kinger centre.

These two players were involved in Gunnislake's opening goal on 30 minutes. A good run by Kinger resulted in the ball going to Underwood and when he was again denied by a good save, Joe Pulley was on hand to score from close range.

No further goals were scored in the first half, although St Minver should have equalised, but their attacker completely missed the ball when just a yard off the goal line.

Playing up the slope Gunnislake spent the majority of the second period soaking up attacks, and on 70 minutes St Minver deservedly equalised with a good header from a corner. Minutes later and St Minver were in front.

Going behind did result in Gunnislake getting forward more although they were still unable to mount any sustained pressure.

But, with five minutes remaining they grabbed a welcome equaliser when Andy Southcott's free kick was turned into his own goal by a St Minver defender.

A good away point for Gunnislake, but it was not enough to keep them in second place as a St Mawgan victory saw them nudge ahead in the league.

In-form Newmoor visit Gunnislake this Saturday for a 2.30pm kick-off.
