TAVISTOCK Athletic Club made a good showing in the Teignbridge 10 mile road race on Easter Sunday. 14 athletes took part with some outstanding individual performances. Richard Drage was 3rd overall in a time of 55:55 and easily 1st in the Male 45 category. Jim Cole was 5th overall in a time of 56:49. Also running the 10 miles in under an hour was Adam Holland who finished as 2nd U20 Male with a time of 59:20. The AA County 10 mile Road Race Championships were also decided in this race and medals were awarded to: Richard Drage, 1st MV45; Adam Holland, 2nd Male U20; Robin Musgrave, 2nd MV55; Mike Lewis, 2nd MV60; Chris Eastaugh , 3rd MV40. Chris Eastaugh?s highly respectable time of 65:22 was of particular note following a recent bout of flu. With 6 runners home in the top 43 Tavistock also won the 1st team prize and collected £10 vouchers valid for Ironbridge Runners, race sponsors. There was more good news for the club when it received recognition from UK Athletics for the work it does with junior athletes. In the South West Region annual Club of the Year Awards it received the runner up spot in the junior section, narrowly beaten by Taunton AC for the top prize. The club has enjoyed another fantastic year with the retention of the Devon Track and Field League trophy in 2004 and recently winning the Devon Sportshall League for the second year running. Training nights on Tuesday at Tavistock College see between 50 and 60 youngsters turning up for the sessions and the expanded coaching structure is gearing up to focus more on athlete development and even more glory for the club.
