Plymouth University 6 Okehampton Columbines 2 WITH new faces in the hockey team and players playing out of position, Okehampton never really found their rhythm and were outplayed Plymouth pressed forward in numbers from the beginning but Okehampton were quick to notice they left themselves with little defence at the back After a flurry of attack from Plymouth a ball launched forward by Sue Stanbury found the forwards in space and Jo Stephens opened the scoring with a goal for Okehampton. Columbines held on to their lead until half time, thanks to a magnificent display in goal from Claire Smith. Despite all her efforts though, she could not keep University from scoring ten minutes into the second half. With their confidence high, Plymouth led an onslaught on the Okehampton goal. Caroline Friend did well to score Okehampton?s second goal, but Columbines could not have any real complaints about the final score. This week Okehampton play the last league game at home against Plymouth Marjons. Okehampton 2nd v Dartmouth OKEHAMPTON Columbines 2nd hockey team started off the match very strongly. Hannah Whitely, Jess Miller, Rachel Hammett and Bea Mingum made successful passes, pushing the ball towards the D. Kate Yells and Becky law made effective shots at goal, but were outnumbered by Dartmouth Defence. In the second half Okehampton?s defence was strong with the backs Jane Hignet, Debbie Ough and Sandy Corkhill putting pressure on Dartmouth?s attack. Dartmouth came in strongly but goalkeeper Sophie Whitely made some great saves, clearing the ball forward to Okehampton?s attackers. Okehampton being a player down for this game played extremely well as a team, as they have done throughout the season. Player of the match was Jane Hignet.
