Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier
Tavistock AFC 2
Penzance 6
THE Lambs suffered another humiliating home defeat at the hands of a very good Penzance side. The visitors recorded their first win in four games in comprehensive fashion.
Once again the home team gifted the fist two goals to the opposition. The contest looked as if it was going to be close, for the opening 25 minutes there was nothing to chose between the two teams.
Then in the 29th minute a miss hit shot by Andrew Westgarth looped over Andy Meeds from 25 yards out. The visitors then took command and they increased their lead when Meeds lost out getting to a through ball and Westgath won the challenge, collecting a ball on the edge of the penalty area, his pass allowed Matt Shields to tap the ball home.
Then in the 38th minute the visitors virtually sealed the points when Chris Russell had the luxury of a free header at the far post to score the third. This was a disastrous nine minute spell for the home team.
The Lambs did rally and in the 42nd minute Levi Landricombe shot home from 22 yards, after picking up a poor clearance from the visitors.
The visitors responded, with Simon Stevens shooting home after some poor defensive play by the home team.
Things did not improve in the second half for the home team and the visitors added a fifth goal to their tally when Lewis Caspell cut in from the left hand side and squared the ball for Shields to tap home for his second. Russell scored his second when he was once again unmarked in the penalty area from a corner kick, and planted his free header into the top corner.
Landricombe scored a cancellation goal for the home team in the 83rd minute.
This was another very poor performance by the Lambs, the team looked completely disjointed and some of the defending was atrocious.
The visitors were gifted at least three if not four of their goals. Two goals conceded from free headers, from dead ball kicks is not acceptable. It is plain to see that confidence in the players is very low, but what they must realise, is that they are the only ones that can turn this situation around.
Recent performance has resulted in the team having gone eight games without a win, and things need to be turned round very quickly, or else the Lambs will be drawn into a relegation dog fight come the end of the season.
n This week the Lambs are at home to the Royal Marines, kick-off 3pm while the reserves are without a fixture. On Wednesday December 8 the Lambs are at home to Torquay United in the Devon Bowl, kick-off 7.45pm.
