Swimming against Devon's best talents and alongside swimmers looking to challenge championship times set in the past by some of the nation's finest swimmers, Okehampton Otters were proud to be able to send four swimmers having qualified for these Championships.
On the first day eighteen year old Jenny Rice finished sixth in her final in time of 1:03.35 in the Woman's 17 years and over 100m Freestyle. Jenny's time gave her a respectable twentieth position in the Open Age Group Event.
Her time qualifies her for Western Counties Events and also beats the existing Otters Masters Age Group title currently held by her mum!
Rebecca and Charlotte Rowe competed in the 14 years girls 50m Backstroke and Girls 13/14 years 100m Freestyle events respectively. Rebecca finished ninth in her age group with a time of 35.68 a respectable twentieth in the Open Age Group Event.
Charlotte finished just short of a top twenty place in her combined age group in a time of 1:08.70 for 100m freestyle. Her time sets a new personal best and a new Otters Club Age Group record. On the second day Charlotte competed in the girls' 13 years 100m Butterfly finishing fifteenth in her age group in a time of 1:27.31.
Recently awarded the trophy for the Okehampton Otters Swimming Club's most improved swimmer of 2003, Matthew Westlake, 12, continued to live up to the title by swimming into Western Counties Qualifying times in his boys' 12 years 200m Backstroke event. Matthew finished fifth in his final and fifth overall in his age group in a time of 2:50.90, also setting a personal best and a new Otters Club Age group record for this event.
Matthew's time from the heats of the Boys' 12 years 100m Breastroke left him a second finals place of the day. Improving on his heats time, Matthew finished in sixth place with a time of 1:29.55, also setting a new personal best.
