A STRING of outstanding performances from Okehampton Otters swimmers resulted in two first, three second, one third position and four club records broken at this, the first of the three Devon Development meetings.
Vicky Medlyn excelled in her swimming to finish in first place in both the 100m and 50m breaststroke events, breaking club records in both events.
John Radnor performed brilliantly, coming away with three medals; second places in the 100m butterfly and 50m butterfly and a third in the 50m backstroke setting a new club record in the 100m butterfly event.
Matthew Westlake?s silver medal performance in the 50m backstroke event brought the medal tally for the evening to six.
Nine other Otters swimmers attended the event held at Plymouth, resulting in four further top ten places. Tom Aylin achieved seventh in the 200m backstroke (new club record), Elona Wonnacot seventh in the 50m breastroke, Janek Jachnik seventh in the 50m backstroke and Matthew Westlake ninth in the 50m butterfly.
Further encouraging swims came from the other participating swimmers ? Amelia Allen, Michael Aylin, Rebecca Jarvis, Kieran Mitchell, Charlotte Radnor and Matthew Webber all finishing within the top 20 places in their events.
Okehampton swimmers will again be in action, looking to improve on this impressive medal tally in the second and third day of the Devon Development Galas later this month.
l Following the time trials recently held at Okehampton pool for the West Devon swim squad, seven from the Okehampton Club have been selected to swim at Exmouth on June 21 as part of the Devon Youth Games. Those selected are Matthew Webber, Michael Aylin, Oliver Kirby, Charlotte Radnor, Eloise Allen, Amelia Allen and Rebecca Jarvis.
