THIS year's Torbay Half Marathon attracted 2,000 entries from all over the country and from abroad having grown from 550 when it first took place in 1991.
Okehampton Running Club was represented by Roger Voaden and Marilyn Cooper. Roger finished an excellent 16th overall, posting a time of 1 hour 20 minutes 32 seconds and Marilyn completing in 1.54.30. These members have been successful in their age group categories this year and they continued here with Roger taking third place in the male vet 45 and Marilyn winning the female vet 55.
The scenic two lap route began on Paignton esplanade with a lap of the green then out to Torquay past Torre Abbey and back again, a distance of 13.1 miles.
Runners enjoyed near perfect conditions in which to tackle the gently undulating, traffic-free course and had good support from the crowds with bands playing music along the way.
The first two places were taken by athletes from Kenya.
The Running Club meets at 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the football pavilion and welcomes runners of all abilities.
