GARDEN admirers across West Devon can view the many gardens in the county open to the public this year, in the National Garden Scheme's latest edition of the Devon Gardens Booklet.
The booklet lists the 143 gardens open across Devon, raising money for nursing, caring and gardening charities including Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care among others.
The majority of gardens are privately owned and the National Garden Scheme (NGS) has welcomed 15 new Devon gardens to the scheme. As well as viewing the gardens, many with views of the moors or the coast, most gardens offer cream teas and plant sales to help raise money for the charities.
More than £110,000 was raised in Devon last year through the generosity of visitors and the work of garden owners and volunteers, and the NGS donated more than £2.4 million to the charities it supports. NGS president and BBC presenter Joe Swift said: 'Everything about the NGS is so great. Great gardens to visit, great value for money and the proceeds going to great charities.'
