TOURISM in the Okehampton area is set to benefit from a website officially launched at Okehampton Tourist Information Centre last Friday.

The attractive and easy to use website offers a wealth of information including details on shopping, eating out, local attractions, walking, cycling, fishing, riding, travel, a what?s on calendar and where to stay. The site also makes it possible for people to buy maps and local books on-line from the Tourist Information Centre from the comfort of their own home.

Okehampton has gone online with the support of more than 40 businesses in and around the town and was produced in partnership by West Devon Borough Council, Okehampton and District chamber of Trade and Pulse8design internet company.

Nadine Trout, tourism officer at West Devon Borough Council said she was delighted with the level of support the site had received from local businesses and by the volume of positive comments made by the site?s users to date.

The site is operated by a sophisticated admin area, which is simple to use and means that TIC staff can add new information or amend the site?s text within seconds. The site is also programmed to ensure that it does not contain out of date events or information, so as soon as an event has passed it is automatically deleted, ensuring that the site is bang up to date at all times.

If your business is tourism related or you are organising an event that you would like to publicise to visitors via the new website simply telephone Nadine Trout, tourism officer on 01822 813700.
