A YELVERTON-based automotive computer system specialist Team Systems has launched a fundraising campaign for Cancer Research in support of a colleague currently fighting the illness.

Rob Northcott from Princetown (above) will compete in the Dartmoor Cycle 2011 event on May 22 in support of Cancer Research UK. Rob, head programmer at Team Systems, will be taking part in support of his colleague Matt Bateman from Plymouth, customer support manager at Team, who is seriously ill with Hodgkins Lymphona in Derriford Hospital and is receiving chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

Rob intends to complete the 50-mile, on and off road, course 'the hard way' — on a unicycle — and is currently in training for the event.

Team Systems managing director and owner Steve Greatrex said: 'Matt's illness has had a deep impact on everyone at the company. All our staff fully supports Rob in the Dartmoor Cycle event to help Matt through this very difficult and challenging period in his life and also to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research UK.'

The event is organised by the Firefighters' Fighting Cancer campaign. Hodgkin's lymphoma is one of the rarer types of lymphoma but it is also one of the most common cancers among younger people.
