THE last of Okehampton and district table tennis league division two matches were completed this week. The J Team played Oke-hampton West End and in a hard fought match The J Team raced into a 5-0 lead with Nick and Naomi Jackson both scoring maximums. Sarah played well to win her first singles in a hard fought five set win against Martin Rose 12-10, 7-11, 7-11, 11-2, 11-9. Naomi also had a five set win against Richard Rose 11-2, 8-11, 5-11, 11-5, 11-8. Brian Skelton won the first game for Okehampton West End beating Sarah 12- 10 in the fifth leg but Naomi won the next against Martin 11-9, in the fifth leg while Richard beat Sarah in straight sets. The J Team won the last doubles for a convincing 8-2 win. The J Team played Moretonhampstead, who could only field two players, and after four games the score was 2-2 with David Shilston and Peter Denman winning one each. The J Team stepped up a gear taking the last five singles and the doubles for another convincing 8-2 win to take them to the top of the table with 88 points. They are 15 points clear of the second placed Okehampton West End. Moretonhampstead played Okehampton B twice at home. They won 8-2 with Maureen Venton and Dick Randell won one each for Oke B in the away match. Maureen beat Peter Denman and Dick Randell beat Richard Underhill to go two up before Moretonhampstead won the next six singles to lead 2-6. Maureen won her last singles and joined Dick in the doubles beating Peter and Richard in straight sets to make the score 6-4 to Moretonhampstead. Okehampton West End were at home against Moreton-hampstead and again Moreton found themselves two down; Trevor Drew did well to beat Ken Underhill, in the next the Brian Skelton beat Richard Underhill to go 2-0 up. Moretonhampstead again fought back to level at 4-4. Trevor Drew completed a fine maximum against Richard in the last singles and joined Martin Rose in the doubles beating Ken and Peter in five legs 8- 11, 7-11, 11-3, 11-9, 12-10 for a 6-4 win for Okehampton West End. Okehampton B were at home to Okehampton West End in the last match of the season, Okehampton B found themselves 8-0 down before Maureen Venton saved the whitewash winning the last singles 11-4, 9-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-4 against Trevor Drew. Okehampton West End won the doubles to win the match 9-1.
