ROBERT Gee from Okehampton has been researching his family tree, and came across an article in a newspaper at the time of the Great War. The article cutting from 1916 read: 'All five sons of Mr and Mrs Horn of 9 Church Street, Okehampton, are in the thick of the fighting in France. And such is the sacrifice which some families have to make. The brave lads are, reading left to right: Top row: Richard (1st Devons), George (9th Devons). Bottom row: William (1st Devons), John (2nd Devons), and Samuel (Royal Field Artillery).' Mr Gee's great-grandfather was William Horn, who survived the war. Richard died at home in Devon from shrapnel wounds on November 11, 1917. John died on October 16, 1916, aged 24.
