THE folly of the past catches up with us. Once again council taxpayers in Tavistock are faced with increased burden. First we had a square imposed on us no one really wanted. Now we are faced with an increased tax burden.
Because of an expensive legal case the town council tax will now quadruple to about £160 a year. Most council taxpayers will be lucky to see their income rise by inflation, but our council can increase it by 400 per cent. Still, I suppose it doesn't matter if it is not you who finds the money.
Will we ever get a fair deal or be listened to? I feel this is simply too big an increase. If the council got it right perhaps we might even have had a reduction. One can only dream, I suppose.
