WELL-known TV presenter and cameraman John Earle will visit the Wharf, Tavistock, next week to present a film lecture on the Sherpas of Everest, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the conquest of the famous mountain.
John will provide commentary to his extraordinary TV film ?The Sherpas of Everest?, giving a rare insight into the lives of these remote people.
Without the Sherpas the early exploration and climbing of Everest and the other Himalayan peaks would not have been possible.
Indeed, when Edmund Hilary reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953, he stood alongside the Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.
John Earle, who has worked on such productions as The World About Us, Expedition Sahara and the children?s programme Tom Tom, will deliver his lecture at 8pm on Friday May 30.
Tickets are on sale for £7 at the Wharf box office, and all proceeds will go to the Dartmoor Trust.
