ON the Toop family trail, I was wondering whether your readers may be able to assist our family history quest? My great great grandmother was Jessie Toop born in 1839 in Whitchurch to James Wilcock Toop, a stonemason, and his wife Elizabeth. Jessie ended up in London marrying a Timothy Currey in 1864 and we've always wondered why a Devon lass living in such a beautiful rural area came to London. From my research I understand my Toop ancestors had links to various villages in your area including Horrabridge, Sampford Spiney and Buckland Monachorum and that Toop was a fairly common name there at the time. In mid August I am bringing my mum to your area to see where our ancestors are from and we would love to get in contact with anyone with a family connection or any information which would assist.
