INMATES and staff at Dartmoor Prison went on the run recently — taking part in a 100-mile sponsored relay around the prison exercise yard in aid of St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth.

One hundred runners each took their turn to run six laps of the exercise yard, the equivalent of one mile. The total running time was 13 hours, 3 minutes and 13 seconds, with the fastest individual time recorded as 5mins:55secs.

Each of the competitors required a minimum of five sponsors before being entered into the event. The average wage for prisoners at Dartmoor is £6, which highlights the valiant efforts of not only the runners but also the sponsors.
