A GROUP that helps youngsters gain their Duke of Edinburgh Awards is actively seeking new members in order to help keep it open.

The West Devon Open Group for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Kingdon House, Tavistock, and helps young people with the chance to develop skills for life and work.

But for the West Devon group, more members aged 14 to 24 are being sought to undertake their Duke of Edinburgh Awards with the group, in order to keep it going.

West Devon Open Group volunteer Carrie Johnson said: 'We are desperately trying to recruit new members and at the moment our numbers are so low that it's possible we might have to close the group if things don't pick up.'

An information evening is being held on Tuesday, November 4 from 7pm to 9pm at Kingdon House.

All are welcome to go along and meet the volunteer team who run the centre, and find out more about all aspects of DofE.

The group can now offer riding expeditions to those who have their own horse.
