Marjons of Plymouth 0
Tavistock 6
TAVISTOCK men's 1st hockey team faced a difficult fixture away to Marjons, with both teams sitting third and fourth respectively in the division.
In difficult conditions Tavistock settled into their structured play and controlled the game. Fluent passing and support play saw them take a two-goal lead into half-time with well struck poaching goals from Nick Andrews and Carl Jeffery.
Positive half-time criticism gave Tavistock a boost, resulting in a third goal taken with composure by Christian Oliver.
A second goal soon followed for Oliver, taking the score to 0-4.
Plymouth, who were left chasing the game, let the controlled networking play of Aveyard and Edwards dominate, and then, with the new dynamo of James Alford up front, allowed Oliver to complete a hat-trick.
As Plymouth pushed hard for a consolation, Broadley in goal saved well with the good strong defensive unit of Costello, Lethbridge and Rodder making crucial interceptions.
Making good use of three rolling substitutes, Tavistock kept the pressure on the home side and were rewarded with another goal. This time it was Joe Hess who got his name on the scoresheet, finishing from close range following good work by Honey and Jeffery.
The victory was no less than Tavistock deserved after producing their best team performance of the season. If they can continue in this style they can mount a serious challenge for a top two place.
Man of the match: James Alford.
This Saturday: Tavistock v Truro, home, 2.30pm.
