OLD Father Christmas, St George and a horse are just a few of the characters in a seasonal Mummers play that will be performed by members of Lodestone Morris dancers next Thursday (December 17).

‘We will be dancing and performing the short ten-minute play at a couple of venues,’ said Master Mummer, Stephen Newland.

Mummers Plays are a fun-visiting custom that hark back to Victorian times, from which there is a tentative link to a play performed in Tavistock.

As is tradition, the performers will be disguised. In the old days, it was considered ‘bad luck’ to be recognised.
