Exeter Saracens U11s 14

Okehampton U11s . . 28

OKEHAMPTON continued their fine early season form with this win against a rugged, sizeable Saracens side.

The stop-start nature of the game was not conducive to Oke's preferred at pace game; however two tries in each half were enough to seal another victory.

In the first period Oke were met with stern defence but managed to breach their opponent's line twice, both scores coming after typical smart breaks by top scorer Leon Horne. One try was self converted while the other was kicked by Jack Ogbourne.

Saracens managed a converted try of their own before the break to leave the interval score 14-7 to Okehampton.

Oke imposed themselves on the second half early as they extended their lead after a Greg Daniel try in the right-hand corner, Corey Holliday converting.

As the Okes' kicking game began to reap dividends they scored their final try, once more from the ever present Leon Horne. Kieran Coyle struck the conversion and despite a late home rally that saw them score a consolation try with the last move of the match, this was another satisfying away win for the Oke U11s.

Liskeard U11s 0

Tavistock U11s 64

TAVISTOCK were determined to improve on their performance from last week.  Right from the kick off, the Tavistock defensive line was strong, with aggressive tackling from Cyrus, Jack and Jasper.

With so much early pressure, Liskeard found it difficult to move forward, and after turnover ball, Ali scored the first try of the game.

Unfortunately, the conversion was missed, but this spurred the team on, with  three more tries being scored in the first half.  Another from Ali, one from Ben R and one from Cyrus.  All these tries were followed by successful conversions from Jake, Harrison, and Nathan.

The second half continued in the same form, with another six tries being scored by Ben R, Reuben, Morgan, Jasper, Harrison and Jack.  Conversions were scored by Ben H, Ali and 2 more by Harrison.

The teamwork and support play was excellent, which was highlighted by the breadth of scorers. Cyrus Larcombe Moore was player of the match after a great display of scrummaging and rucking.  This was a whole team effort which resulted in a clean sheet.

IN the first match Okehampton stormed through Saracen's defence, giving Immy the opportunity to score the first try. Winning the first scrum Oke's pushed forward for Daichi to score the second, then he ran straight through to score the third as well, all within seven minutes of play. Great defending by George, Daniel and Immy and some super breaks from Kai gave Nathan the chance to score to make it 20-5 to Oke's at half-time.

A tough second half saw Saracen's equalise despite some awesome tackling from George which earned him man of the match.

IN the second match Nathan came straight out to score Oke's first try, Saracen's scored but Oke's retaliated again with a try from Daichi followed by Daniel who slipped through on the left wing.

In the second half Saracen's were first to find the try line but Okehampton replied to each of their tries, leaving the score 6-6 all at the final whistle.

Liskeard U10s 5

Tavistock U10s 80

ON a clear bright day Tavistock U10s went into this game wide awake and hungry for a win.

Liskeard duly obliged with Tavistock dominating the game. This was a great team performance with tries scored from 11 different Tavistock players. Player of the match Archie Allen and Luke Lewandski both played well and the partnership of Jacob Staig and Lachlan Fulton was outstanding in open play.

Morgan Turnock and Tom Pearson both had great games while Olly Noy Scott broke through on a number of occasions. John Lord and Cian Benny are growing in confidence and stepped up their game today. Jude White, Theo Jenkins, Jason Blake and Freddie Grier Rees were solid as ever and newcomer Brynmor Workman played commendably in his first competitive game for Tavistock.

SARACENS provided stiff opposition in a hard fought match and although the Okes managed to win but this was by no means their best performance.

Will Cunningham (3), Cole Pengelly (2) and Ethan Wilds (2) all scored some well taken tries, with the latter making some great breaks.  Matthew Denning, Charlie Glanville, Saul Holiday and Joshua Burgoyne all tackled well and worked hard around the pitch.  Daniel Tomkins, James Stevens, Liam Daintree, David Smith and Sonny Luxton all worked hard in and around the ruck and maul area, producing some good turnover ball.

Ben Wharton and Daniel Wonnacott worked well together at half backs, whilst Jake and Harry Laing-Taylor both supported the team well in attack.

Oke played to their strengths but made some basic errors to giving away penalties.

Tavistock RFC U9s 5

Newton Abbot U9s 40

THE Tavistock side were a little shocked by Newton Abbot's physicality which allowed them to dominate for most of the first half, running in three tries to nil. However Tavistock started to get their confidence back and put up a spirited fight with a second half try for Henry Varndell-Dawes  eventually finding a gap in the Newton Abbot defence. This was not enough to diminish the strength of the Newton Abbot pack and the final  score of 40-5 accurately recorded their dominance but  not the effort and energy put in by the Tavistock side, especially their excellent use of the touchline and Dan Pett's tackle  on the biggest Newton Abbot player charging through the middle

Newton Abbot U9s 20

TAVISTOCK were rewared with two tries  - one each for Louis Peake and Jack Lancashire on his debut. However, tired arms and legs allowed Newton Abbott back into the game and their superior fitness showing with a last minute flourish of four tries.

Tavistock scrum half Harry Edwards being unceasing in his efforts to thwart  Newton Abbot while Tavistock player of the match was Harry Richardson for his ferocious try stopping tackles.

Tavistock U9s 65

Liskeard and Looe U9s 0

TAVISTOCK took the game to Liskeard from the off and Noah Berridge set up two early tries for Henry Varndell-Dawes.

More strong runs in midfield from Jack Lancashire and Harry Edwards set up a further two tries for Henry and one for Noah and a further try by Louis Peake but them 30-0 up at half-time.

A solid defensive performance from captain Harry Richardson helped keep Liskeard away from the scoring zone.

Second half support from James Kenyon , Bryn Bourton Jack Baker and Dan Pett lead to another six tries for Tavistock from Henry Varndell - Dawes ( 2 more) Louis Peake ( 3 more) with Harry Edwards and Noah Berridge adding one apiece.

Saracens U8s 13 tries

Okehampton U8s 8 tries

OKEHAMPTON U8s were on fine form and worked fantastically as a team but could not defeat a strong Saracens side. Edward Luke and Oliver Johns scored two speedy tries for Okehampton, as did Tom Chapman, while Dylan Watling also scored a great try. Jay Jenkins then scored in the last quarter of play.

Jacob Smith, Charlie Collins and Jay Jenkins were fantastic in defence, tagging Exeter at every opportunity.

The team has grown in confidence and were tested in their abilities as the referee adhered to strict rules of tag rugby throughout the match. They provided an entertaining match for their supporters to watch.

Okehampton look forward to this week's match at home to Exmouth.

Tavistock U8s 10 tries

Liskeard Looe U8s 7 tries

TAVISTOCK U8s enjoyed their first win of the season away at Liskeard. Throughout the game, the team played with great spirit. What was particularly pleasing to the coaches and parents was the skill level with no dropped passes or forward passes throughout the whole game! Jack, Jacob and  Toby NS set up first half tries for Callum, Isaac and Toby and Joe and Liam led the line aggressively, without quite resorting to full contact. At half-time the score was 4-4.

In the second half, Tavistock unleashed their running game with Tom, Isaac, Toby and especially Ted scoring  length of the field tries with dummies, jinks and steps.

Saracens U7s 2 tries
