Okehampton U16s 34
Crediton U16s 10
OKEHAMPTON started slowly and were caught off guard by some good strong play by Crediton. The pressure paid off and they scored the first points with a converted try.
A further penalty converted saw Crediton go into a 10-0 lead. It was not until near the end of the first half that Oke scored with Daniel Lee forcing his way across the line to make the half time score 5-10.
After the interval Okehampton kept the ball moving and this resulted in winger Jordan Cornthwaite crossing the line near the corner to score. After typically strong play in the centre, Dean Folland scored a try which was converted by Liam Wilkins.
Crediton heads seemed to drop and the good work that their pack did in the first half could not be repeated with quite the same effect.
Full back Deane Andrew for Oke made some telling runs through from the back and scored a try of his own. Most of the play stayed in Crediton's half with Okehampton winning line outs up near the Crediton try line.
Oke scrum half Alex Hillman scored his first try for the team with Will Copp then scoring the last try which was converted by Deane to give Oke a 34-10 win. Despite both sides having two yellow cards for minor infringements both sides played well disciplined rugby and were a credit to their sides and coaches.
n Okehampton U16s play Tavistock U16s in their rearranged away game on Sunday.
n After the game the Oke captain Josh Bush received the Stuart Stocking Memorial cup from Bill Stocking and his wife Lorraine — Stuart's parents. They donated the cup last year after the death of Stuart who had played for Okehampton Youth in his teens in the 90s. The cup is awarded to the U16s team who scores the highest combined number of points in the two games against each other. With Okehampton having won the away game 69-0 they were the clear winners.
Bill paid tribute to both teams and the spirit that the game was played in.
