A beautiful day greeted ladies from 14 different clubs who came to Okehampton Golf Club to compete in the Autumn Texas Scramble last Wednesday.

It was a superb day for golf with the course in wonderful condition.

The overall winners came from Downes Crediton Golf Club with Sophie Button, Jane Mitchell and Sylvia Marklew recording an excellent score of 60.8. Second overall went to a Holsworthy team consisting of Carol Skrzypczak, Carol Baker and Julie Ellis who had net 61.

The best combination score was won by Rachel Spry (S Herts), Becky Tilke (Fingle Glen) and Marcia Jones (Okehampton) with a net 63.2. Second were Elizabeth Calder (Yelverton) Val Dodsworth and Ann Brokenbrow (Okehampton) with net 63.8.

Best visitors first prize went to L McWhirter, D Gough and C Pearce (Carlyon Bay) with net 61.8. The spot prizes included C Pearce (Carlyon Bay) winning nearest the pin on the 15th and home player Pam Jarman winning it on the seventh.

The longest drive for the bronze players was won by Sylvie Gowers (Okehampton) and the silver was won with a superb drive up the 18th by Becky Tilke (Fingle Glen).

On Saturday in lovely conditions a large field competed in a three ball team competition. Winners of division one were Gareth Holt, Will Searle and Jack Cornwall with 78 points, in second place were Kevin Cornwall, Malcolm Hill and Mark Wonnacott with 70, Matt Soby, Martin Cox and Richard Johnson came third with 68.

Division two was won by Andrew Parry, Lewis Parry and Martin Jewell with 74pts, in second were Phil Hobbs, Nicholas Hobbs and Bill Swainson with 71, Bob Collett, Ray Grey and Rich Camies third with 67.
