AN OKEHAMPTON girl has rowed her way to a gold medal in the national rowing club championships held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham. Rachael Luxton rows for the City of Oxford rowing club, enjoying great success with her team. In the national championships, she was captain of a coxless team of four women rowers, who seized a gold medal by several lengths ? the club?s first national win of the year. Rachel went to Sticklepath Primary School and then to Chagford Primary School. Her mother, former Okehampton mayor Frances Luxton, said: ?Rachel and the girls practise so hard that we hardly get to see her these days - she?s always rowing.? l Pictured third from left Rachael Luxton with the successful City of Oxford team.
