THE Okement Rivers Improvement Group are to hold a special ‘Clean for the Queen’ session on Saturday, April 30.
Members of the rivers group give up their spare time to maintain the river, clearing river banks, removing dead trees and planting new ones, and maintaining paths and walkways so that people can enjoy the beauty of the two rivers running through Okehampton.
Among the major projects undertaken by the group include the installation of the viewing platform , wooden fencing and benches beside the river behind Lidl, and clearing Clapps Wood of overgrown laurel and dangerous trees to create a footpath between Westbridge Close to Lodge Hill, which should be open in the near future.
The group is taking part in Clean for the Queen, a campaign in honour of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday designed to invite individuals and groups to tidy up their communities ahead of the celebrations.
The group is meeting at the recycling bins in Waitrose at 10am. Everyone is welcome and bags and gloves will be provided. For more information call 07881 802055.
