Bideford U11s 7

Okehampton U11s 40

As Okehampton U11s' match with Torrington was cancelled the coaches managed to arrange a match against Bideford.

Clear skies and a frosty surface greeted the Oke team. Its scrum from the start played well as a unit. They were by far the stronger pack and gave the three quarters excellent possession.

The Okes' strong line out gave clean ball to the three quarters and everybody in the team made use of the ball.

Brandon Horn made a great break in the scrum and fed Reece Peacook leading to an excellent forward try.

In the three quarters Strawbridge and the two Stratton brothers had a lot of possession and increasingly through the game moved the ball out to the three quarter line.

There were long runs from Jack Simmonds and Robbie Bell both penetrating far through the opposition defence.

Tries by Pillivant (2), Peacock (2), Horn and Fishleigh and Ewen made this a comprehensive victory for Okehampton.

Overall this was a much improved performance by Okehampton and the opposition, who started a man short, never gave up.

AFTER several weeks enforced rest, the Okes U9s showed little rustiness as they saw off their South Hams hosts with relative ease.

Despite never finding top gear, and only travelling with the bare nine players, they scored early through Leon Horne and scores followed at regular intervals. Leon went on to grab five further excellent tries.

The final scoreline was completed as scrum half Corey Holliday crossed for two scores and Olly Ardon with a brace, joined him on the score sheet.

Try scorers were Ethan Hoggins, Leon Horne (3) and Olly Ardon.

All the players gave their all and all deserve credit. They will hope to continue their recent winning streak at home to visitors Bude next week.

ANOTHER cold morning saw Okehampton play at home against Bideford.

Oke started well and soon pulled away by four tries to one.

All the team displayed excellent tagging skills, leading to several turnovers of the ball. This pressure led to a few mistakes by Bideford which were capitalised on and Daniel was able to pick up a loose ball to sprint over the line for a try.

Bideford then broke away but a crucial tag by Maddie stopped them short of the line.

Unfortunately, Okehampton seemed a different team in the second half.

Lack of concentration and some fundamental errors meant that Bideford were able to get back into the game.

Oke tries: Daniel Turney, Nathan Tomkins (2), Maddie Arden

WILLS showed a good turn of speed to race down the line for an Okehampton try but unfortunately it was not to be, having gone into touch at the last minute.

The team kept their shape well and went into a 3-0 lead at half time. This continued in the second half for Oke to secure a well deserved win.

Tries: Nathan Tomkins (4), Will Cunningham, Kai Middleton.

There was great tagging from Jake Laing-Taylor, David Smith, James Stevens and debutant George Cox held the Oke defensive line well.
