South West One Plymouth Marjons C 0 Okehampton hockey team 4 OKEHAMPTON welcomed back four players for the trip to Plymouth, knowing that they would have to play well to beat the college team. Okehampton failed to get hold of the ball at the start, with Marjons enjoying long spells of possession. After 15 minutes the visitors took the lead by hitting Marjons on the counter-attack. Mark Parsons picked the ball up, just inside the opposition?s half, and ran to the edge of the area, before squaring the ball to Richard Jones to slot home. Minutes later Parsons was sent tumbling by the goalkeeper and his head collided with the post. Simon Garland came on for the injured forward. He got straight into the action and after beating two defenders and the goalkeeper his shot was blocked on the line. Parsons came back on and had another shot blocked on the line after good work from Simon Bourne. Marjons created a few half chances but really failed to test the Okehampton defence. The second half saw the game open up and Okehampton doubled their advantage, when Bourne found Parsons who reversed sticked it past the goalkeeper. Parsons then scored his second and killed the game off by slamming the ball into the bottom corner from a short corner. With the game wrapped up Stevens and Morgan went off with injuries and Bourne was also struggling. But Okehampton still continued to press forward and scored the best goal of the game when Garland?s run and pass found Tom Forrester, who unselfishly played it back for Garland to bury it. An awesome performance by Okehampton who will now look forward to a home derby against Tavistock on Saturday. Man of the match: Jeff Stevens.
