OKEHAMPTON Squash Club first team travelled to Honiton on Friday and secured an excellent victory over last year?s cup holders, despite injury problems. Andy Glossop and Martin Leyton were injured but gave a good effort, both going down 3-0.
Steve Yeo played well in a hard first game and cruised through the next two, winning 3-0. Donald Rooke came through 3-1.
Arnie Searle, who has had an injury, came through with an excellent game at 2-2 and at 8-4 up looked like taking the last game easily. But his opponent came back to 7-8 and finally Searle played a patient and arduous rally to take the game 9-7, and the match 3-2.
Okehampton now wait to see who their opponents are in the quarter-finals.
The ladies? first team also had a match against Exeter Golf and Country Club at home with excellent victories from all the players gaining maximum points 19 to 4
