IN division 1, Tavistock completed the double over Okehampton B with a convincing 10-0 win. Fred Phillips and Peter Hicks with Ian Smith, playing for the injured Roger Bowkett, all scored maximums. Andy Moppett took Peter Hicks to a fourth leg decider and was unlucky against Ian Smith, just losing out in five legs, 12-10, 11-8, 7-11, 11-13, 14-12. Okehampton College A were at home to Okehampton A, Alex Wren and Richard Mounce played well to win against Frank Cockburn. Alex won in five legs 9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 14-12, 14-12 then another exciting five-leg decider saw Richard win 11-9 10-12, 10-12, 11-5, 13-11. Neither could stop Barry Vaughan and Tony Howick, playing his first match since moving back to the area, winning all their singles. In the doubles between Alex Wren and Richard Mounce against Barry Vaughan and Frank Cockburn it was another thrilling five-leg decider, Barry and Frank wining 11-7 for an 8-2 win. In division 2 there were the first drawn matches of the season first North Wyke were at home to league leaders Lewdown. Tom Misselbrook gave North Wyke a good start, beating Pam Hunwicke in four legs and then went on to scored a fine maximum. North Tawton took a 2-1 lead and 3-2 lead then Richard Rose put Lewdown level when he beat Bruce Freeman in four legs. In the next Richard's son, Martin Rose put Lewdown in the lead for the first time beating Steve Granger 10-12, 3-11, 14-12, 11-9, 5-11. Pam Hunwicke put Lewdown 3-5 when she beat Bruce Freeman in four legs. Tom Misselbrook made it 4-5, beating Richard Rose then joined Bruce Freeman in the last doubles against Pam and Richard winning 11-5, in the fifth leg for a 5-5 draw. In the next match Moretonhampstead B took on club rivals Moretonhampstead A in another thrilling 5-5 draw. Peter Denman put the B side in the lead beating Claire Yallop in straight sets then David Shilston nearly beat Ken Underhill for the first time just losing out in a five leg set 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 7-11 to level at 1-1. There was another thriller when Brian Spittles played up as a reserve for Moretonhampstead A beating Richard Underhill 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 7-11, 9-11 to put the A side in the lead 1-2, the B side went on to lead at 5-4. In the last doubles Peter Denman and David Shilston against Claire Yallop and Ken Underhill, Claire and Ken wining easily in three legs for a 5-5 result.
