OKEHAMPTON Running Club's Philippa Allom is proud to have completed the Brecon to Cardiff 50 mile Ultra.

The event May 22 starting at Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon, following the  scenic Taff Trail and ending at Sport Wales in Cardiff.  The weather was rather inclement for the first half of the day with heavy, squally showers. Philippa got repeatedly soaked but the weather cleared for the second half of the run.

There were four check points at roughly 10 mile intervals and the trail went along the canal towpath, country lanes, woodland, mountains and then into not quite so scenic towns and along some busy roads.

The final few miles were a question of digging in, gritting the teeth and keeping going.  Philippa, who was expecting to take 12 hours to complete the run, was thrilled with her time of 10hrs 27 mins.  She took part in the Neolithic marathon over Salisbury Plain three weeks ago in preparation for this event.

Phillippa said:?'I love the long distance event as there is time to really enjoy the surroundings, I am often running in beautiful surroundings and meeting lots of lovely, like minded people.

'Once again the support of all the members of Okehampton Running Club has been an inspiration,' she added.
