THE team from Okehampton Golf club beat stiff competition from 15 other clubs on Tuesday week to win the inaugural final of the South West MG Rover trophy, held at Wood bury Park.

The team, consisting of Penny Deakin, David Peart, Dean Rice and Phil Harvey, managing director of sponsoring dealer Exeter Motor Group, battled in the rain to return a nett score of one under par.

The team are pictured after reieving their prizes and the trophy from Terry Hunt, UK South regional manager, MG Rover Group.

Barry Hodges, area business manager for MG Rover Group, who organised the competition, said: ?As an Okehampton member, I am obviously delighted that the team played so well. They were a credit to the club.?

The winners qualified for the team by winning the club events sponsored by the local MG Rover dealers. Each club held a competitoin to find the best lady, men and senior players, who were then joined by a dealer host to make up the four-ball team.

Barry Hodges hopes that his colleagues in other parts of the country will run similar events next year, so that the competition could be extended to include a national final, perhaps at the Belfry or Celtic Manor.

Any clubs who wish to take part next year should contact their local MG Rover Dealer.
