WITH two home matches remaining to complete the season Okehampton Men`s B tennis team needed six points to secure third place.

In the first match against Tunnels B Alex Donnelly stepped up from the C team to partner Stuart Jarvis but despite some inspired play lost their opening rubber1-6, 3-6. Alex gained confidence and they were unlucky to lose the first set of their second rubber 6-7 in a tie-break. Unfortunately they couldn not maintain their momentum and lost the second set 3-6.

John Jarvis and Mark Gibbs kept up their usual high standard to win their first match 6-4, 6-1 and the second encounter 6-4, 6-4 to gain four of the points needed.

Bovey Tracey B arrived for the last match of the season seeking two points to climb off the bottom of the table.

Stuart Jarvis was re-united with his regular partner John Radnor. The pair were in good form to win their matches 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 7-5.

John Jarvis and Mark Gibbs completed the 8-0 whitewash with comfortable 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-1 victories.

Although only the top two teams are guaranteed promotion there is a chance that by gaining third spot Okehampton B could also be promoted due to teams dropping out of higher leagues. Whatever the outcome they are pleased with their efforts this season.
