IT has been a busy week for everyone at Okehampton Golf Club with the ladies? president?s team hosting their match against Downes Crediton. Marcia Holwill led the team out, but after a hard battle giving five shots to her opponent she lost on the last hole. Dawn Phillott also giving five shots had a magnificent win of 6-5, while Penny Deakin gave four shots but won her match 4-3. Then Mo Huggins had a real tough match which she halved, giving five shots. Marcia Jones played her best golf of the season to overwhelm her opponent and won 5-7. Pam Jarman and Cherry James both had tricky matches but both managed to win 3-2. The ladies? league team was also in action at Bigbury and managed another points win. Rachel Spry had a difficult match and lost 7-5, Lin Atkinson steadied the team with a hard fought win on the 18th and Kath Mansell then won 5-4. Mary Keir and team captain Kay King both lost 2-1. However Jane Warren had an excellent win of 5-4 and so the Okehampton team won by 9points to 8. On Wednesday there was a mens? three ball team open ? the start sheet was full and a great many clubs were represented from miles around. First visitors? prize went to N Banfield, D Dowell and M Bargery from Long Sutton and Windwhistle with 78pts; 2, A Goodair, M Tilbrook and D Foster from Looe with 75; 3, A Phillips, D Willey and N Chard were from Exminster and Downes Crediton with 73. The first home team were P Ewings, J Flavin and N Penfold with 83; 2, C Askew, G Parker and D Jones with 80; 3, John Leonard, W Swainson and R Barrett, 77. The president?s team had to play again on Friday in a rearranged fixture at Downes Crediton. The team were again giving shots. Marcia Holwill and Dawn Phillott were both giving five shots and played some wonderful golf to half their matches. Penny Deakin and Mo Huggins, again giving four and five shots respectively, lost though Mo gave her lady a real battle and only lost on the 18th. Marcia Jones won her match 5-4 and Pam Jarman and Cherry James also both won 6-5, each giving each shots. This means another important away win of 4-3.
