Okehampton 9

Okehampton 2nds 1

A DIFFICULT start to the New Year for both teams. The seconds started the game brilliantly and had the firsts under pressure straight from the start.

Clive Morais was denied by an excellent diving tackle from goalkeeper Andy Harvey, the other keeper Pete Sim saving well to keep it level.

Despite having all the pressure they couldn't take advantage and the firsts got a lucky break and Josh Speak rolled the ball home.

Again against the run of play the firsts scored again when Parsons placed the ball over the advancing keeper after a great ball from Luke Miller.

Simon Bourne got the third before Parsons scored the fourth, with both balls being played through by James Rogers.

The seconds did create some good openings, with Stuart Davis down the right and Chris Searle shooting just wide a couple of times.

Rogers then got himself on the score-sheet after a brilliant short corner routine and a good lead at half time.

The second half started awfully for the firsts as Searle walked through and smashed the ball past Harvey to give the seconds a deserved goal. Unfortunately the seconds' hopes were shattered when Parsons got his hat-trick and then added another to take the game away from their opposition.

Bourne got his hat-trick before Miller rattled the post. The score-line could have got worse but for some excellent defending from John Yell, Ian Miller and Sam Spry.

Adam Cockaine shot just wide for the away side as they never gave up hope, before another short corner routine saw Nick Luxton fire home from the edge of the area.

The score-line was flattering, to say the least, but shows just how seriously the first team had to take their second side.

• This week Okehampton travel to Truro C and the seconds host OPMA.
