AFTER a shock 8-1 away defeat at Victoria Park Okehampton Mens B Tennis team faced second placed Teignmouth with confidence at a low ebb.

The Teignmouth first pairing have not dropped a set all season and beat both Okehampton pairings comfortably.

It was therefore vital to gain points from the second pairing. Paul Russell, stepping up from the C team, made a promising start with Stuart Jarvis winning the first set 6-2 but they lost the second one 4-6 and the championship tie-break 6-10. Mark Gibbs and John Jarvis cruised through their first set against the second pairing 6-0 and were surprised to find themselves 2-5 down in the second set. However, as they have done several times this season, they fought back to take the set 7-6.

Okehampton B team found life much easier at home to Woodbury with both John Jarvis and Mark Gibbs and Stuart Jarvis and John Radnor winning in straight sets. These valuable eight points have re-established Okehampton in third place in the league.

The B's next match is at home to run-away league leaders Tiverton today (July 23).
