Flight Sergeant Joe Manners of 2443 (Okehampton) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets has recently completed the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme.

A highlight included being taught to fly a single engine aircraft.

The training took place at the Tayside Aviation Ltd in Dundee and involved 11 hours and 40 minutes of inflight instruction with the first seven hours relating to specific principles of flight, with a detailed briefing being given before each sortie.

All of this training culminated in a 20-minute solo flight in which Flight Sergeant Manners earned his ’Wings’.

FS Manners’ ambition is to join the Fleet Air Arm as a helicopter pilot and this achievement will no doubt enhance his chances of success.
