Okehampton Men's Hockey A 7
Plymouth Marjon D 3
AFTER last weeks demolition of Dart, Okehampton now faced Plymouth Marjon D, who were level on points in the league.
The match started well for Okehampton with a lot of the play being in the Marjon half. The break- through came after five minutes with Nick Luxton converting a short corner shooting on the right of the goal.
Oke continued their pressure and scored their second on the ten minute mark with Clive Marais scoring a tap in after a scrap in the Marjon goal.
The match started to open up and Marjon created a couple of chances but was thwarted by the Okehampton defence of Ian Miller, John Yells and Keith Webber. Marjons were made to pay for not converting their chances with Toby Lloyd neatly reverse striking the ball to the far right of the goal.
The match started to get scrappy but Oke continued to play their fast paced passing hockey and were rewarded with another goal, this time Mark Parsons getting his name on the score sheet by dummying the ball which threw the keeper, dragging the ball to the right and striking it to the left.
The match took a turn when Oke's John Yells was given a yellow card for a minimal tackle. Although upset about being sent off, Yells put in a great performance in when he came back on.
Okehampton got one more goal before the break with Adam Cockayne striking the ball which took a deflection before finding the net.
After the break Oke continued to dominate play with Darren Reed putting in a man of the match effort and was rewarded with a goal. Mark Parsons managed to get his second to put the game beyond doubt.
Okehampton play started to get sloppy, frustrated by the start-stop play, and conceded three soft goals at the end but showed enough discipline to secure the victory.
Man of the match: Darren Reed.
