OKEHAMPTON Ladies Hockey Club played in the ISCA seven-a-side tournament at Exeter University on Saturday.
The teams were split into two leagues with the winners and runners-up going through to the semi-finals.
Oke's first opponents were Tiverton White Eagles and Okehampton kept the majority of the possession and had a comfortable 5-0 victory.
Exeter Culm Vale Hornets proved to be stiff opposition with both teams and Oke were unlucky to finish a goal down with a 2-3 defeat.
However the Okehampton team were then in a defiant mood and went on to beat ISCA B 3-0 and Ashmoor B 3-1.
Oke went through to the semi-finals and had a comfortable win over Ashmoor A giving them a place in the final against their old rivals Exeter Culm Vale Hornets.
The final was a fast and exciting encounter with both teams being forced to mark tightly and defend soundly.
The end to end play looked as though it would finish in deadlock and the winners would be decided on penalty flicks. But, with minutes to play Oke's Nettie Collett gained possession deep in defence. She split the Culm players with a perfectly placed pass which captain Jo Moppett ran onto, and cooly beat the goalie for the winning shot and tournament title.
n This Saturday both the ladies' teams play friendly fixtures at home against teams from Ashmoor. The second team match is at 1pm with the firsts playing at 2.30pm.
