Okehampton Columbines 14 Paignton 0 WITH Paignton able to field only seven players on the day, this was always likely to be an easy win, though Okehampton did not always play at their best. Jo Moppett scored the opening goal in the first minute and Paignton must have expected a rout. However, they defended bravely and were able to keep Okehampton to the single goal for the next ten minutes. But Okehampton began to pass better, using their free players and goals followed in quick succession. With a comfortable 9-0 lead at half-time, Okehampton swapped some of their players around to give them experience in new positions. Abi Colton did well at right wing and was rewarded with a goal early in the second half. Hannah Whiteley had an excellent game at left half, as did Sandy Douglas, playing wide on the left wing. Paignton could not offer anything in attack and Columbines were able to press forward in numbers. Sarah Jones scored from a well-taken flick from the edge of the circle, with Jo Moppett scoring with ease the bulk of the goals. Paignton played in good spirit, but they did not have a chance against high-flying league leaders Columbines. l This week Columbines are away at St Austell.
