Friendly Okehampton mens' seconds 4 Okehampton ladies' firsts 2 OKEHAMPTON men's hockey team were hoping to finish off with a bang when they played the ladies in a friendly hockey match to finish the season. The rain pouring down prevented the men from playing their quick passing game and helped the women to slow the pace to suit them. Things started badly for the seconds when a series of mistakes from Luke Miller and Mark Parsons gifted the opening goal to the ladies. Desperate to make up for his error Parsons was set up by Jarvis and slotted the ball home. Nick Luxton put the men ahead with a cool finish as the seconds started to bombard the women's goal. James Rogers smashed home the third from a short corner and Parsons missed a sitter, while Lloyd and Luxton went close. The second half was more cagey as the men created openings, but the ladies' keeper saved on numerous occasions. The men's captain is normally a defender, but played up front in the second half and he found the net with a rocket which flew into the bottom corner. Miller also could have had a lot more, but wasted some good opportunities, his son also going close. The ladies never gave up and their influential striker got her deserved goal to make it 4-2 just before the end. This was a very good game with both teams hungry for victory and a hard fought win for the men. Man of the match: Ian Miller.
