Honiton Colts 5

Okehampton Colts 27

THIS was a better performance this week from Okehampton who played up the slope in very sticky conditions.

Their pack soon got the better of the Honiton eight with good tight interplay sucking in defenders for the ball then to be spun wide to wing Callum Ausden who, from 30 metres out, went outside his man to score in the corner. After similar forward work, centre Tom McGratton put a clever chip over the Honiton centres as they rushed up, Ausden fly-hacked on past the full-back for a touch-down.

Then came the best try of the game; with the Okehampton scrum on their own 22, number eight Will Hawkins flipped the ball to scrum-half Richard Friend who broke up the middle of the pitch, got tackled on the half-way, popped the ball up to wing-forward Rob Stepto who made six or seven metres, prop Stuart Bennie in close support picked up and drove on to the 22, as he got tackled he again popped up the ball to Friend to sprint in under the post to score. Kevin Dennis converted.

The score was 17-5 at half-time.

Okehampton with the slope should have run up the points but credit to Honiton they held the Okes out until the last 10 minutes when wing Jack Phare scored in the corner soon followed by centre McGratton crashing through to score.
