Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 3
Veryan 3
Lamerton 5
LAMERTON travelled to lowly Veryan delighted that the match was on and amazed at how well the surface held up.
The wind was a major factor with both teams struggling to keep the ball on the deck. Lamerton took the lead after 15 minutes when a Kev Swift through ball was guided home by Zak Beesley. Shortly afterwards, Swift doubled the advantage from close range.
When Dan O?Hare floated a ball over the keeper before half-time to make it three the game looked all over. The home side had other ideas and Grose curled in an excellent shot from well outside the box to reduce the arrears.
Almost immediately Will Cann scrambled in a Graham Cole corner to make it 4-1. Grose then scored his second, again from long range, and when Martin Murphy converted a free kick with ten minutes left Lamerton knew they would have to battle for the points.
It was left to the experience of John O?Hare to seal the game for the visitors when he beat the keeper from inside the box.
Man of the match: Ian Collacott.
It was good for Lamerton to get back in winning ways as they face the prospect of several long-term absences in the next couple of weeks.
Tregony 1
Callington 3
THIS match was played in a strong side-wind, meaning that controlled football was not an option.
Callington got an early strike when Rooke chased a long through ball and managed to toe-end it into the net.
Callington adapted to the conditions far better than Tregony, whose physical approach to the game could have had serious repercussions if it had not been for the referee, whose commen sense manner defused awkward moments.
A poor clearance by Callington allowed Tregony to level before half-time. Brown and Hall in midfield gave little away and this allowed Callington to force quality saves from Rider.
Mcpherson picked up a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area and his shot dropped into the far corner of the net.
Tregony never gave up and Callington survived when one shot came back off a post.
The game was settled when Rooke was pushed over in the penalty area and Brown?s spot kick went in off a post.
Callington were indebted to young Stephen Kelly who played in goal to ease their goalkeeping problem as their regular keepers are either injured or unavailable. He made a valuable contribution.
