THE Leaze Day Centre in Okehampton has recently been presented with a certificate stating that it has been assessed to the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO).

Manager David Dobson said the Leaze had applied to be assessed and had regular meetings with an in-house auditor from Devon County Council.

?When he thinks you are ready for the standard you produce a procedure manual ? and that gets audited by the external ISO auditor. We had one that had experience auditing ISO within the care setting,? he said.

The audit is based around the administration of care services, rather than assessing the standard of care, and is about how professionally the administration of the service is run.

?The result of getting the certificate means that we can provide a better, higher quality service for the people that buy it in, Social Services, and the people that receive it, the learning disabled people that come here,? said Mr Dobson.

He said: ?We can add this ISO standard to the bottom of our official letter heads. It means we can offer our services knowing that the system we run has been recognised as being of an internationally recognised standard.?

Mr Dobson said the Leaze was hoping to have a presentation day at the day centre next month with the certificate ceremoniously handed over to the staff and students.
