A FORMER Tavistock College student and member of the town's athletics club pushed her stamina and strength to the limit last week, when she competed in the inter-services cross country championships last week.

Officer Cadet Jo Kelsey from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst competed against top runners from the Army, Royal Navy and RAF in the three-mile event, held at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire.

Jo, aged 24, has been running for about six years. She is already the Army's ladies' national cross country champion and recently came third in the Army triathlon sprint championships.

She said: 'I originally ran to lose weight and that's how it all started. Now I enjoy it because it's something I've found I'm quite good at.

'I like the fact that you can go off and explore different places, and the feeling when you finish is pretty good.'

Jo said she joined the Army because of her love of sport. She went to Sandhurst last year and is hoping to be commissioned in December.

She is due to serve with the Royal Logistics Corps in Abingdon.
