THREE Mount House sixth formers have won scholarships and will join the secondary schools of their choice when they leave in the summer.
Alexander Ferguson from Yelverton has won the Alexander Ross Wallace scholarship, the top full academic award, to Sherborne School in Dorset. At Mount House, as well as his academic achievements, Alex has shown himself to be a keen and talented sportsman.
He has played rugby for both the first XV and the first VII this year and last year, and plays for Tavistock Rugby Club. He has represented the school at hockey and cricket. He is a capable actor, having taken leading roles both in junior and senior plays. At Sherborne Alex will join his two brothers, Patrick and Louis, who are already pupils there.
Holly Wixon, who also lives in Yelverton, has been awarded the top art scholarship to Kelly College. She has produced a wide variety of work in a broad range of media both in art classes and in her own time.
She played in goal for Mount House hockey team, and was awarded the best player cup. She captained the netball team during the Easter term, and was bowler in last year's rounders team.
India Lewis, from Bridestowe, has been awarded a combined music and academic scholarship to Kelly College. She is studying the violin at Grade 7 having passed Grade 5 with merit, and sings — often performing solos — with the chapel choir.
India has represented the school in all sports and this year played wing defence for the U13 A netball team. She is a keen equestrian, and twice represented Mount House at the Stonar one-day event. At the Cricklands National Show Jumping Championships she was placed nationally in both classes. India took the role of 'Ophelia' in this year's senior play, The Bookends.
