IT was good to read about Lisa Wadling's experience of shopping in Tavistock (Times, March 14).  I too have been doing the same thing, although in my case I have always used one or other of the three butchers.

Where else can you buy whatever you need — one chop, a couple of sausages, braising steak cut to your liking and mostly better quality and cheaper than a supermarket?  Not BOGOF or 3 for 2.

Also, there are other shops who offer service and sound advice second to none;  fish shop, greengrocers, delicatessan, health/whole foods, cafés, electrical and white goods, chemist, shoe shop, ladies' and men's fashions, all private, locally owned and run.

Perhaps parking times could be extended, which might encourage people to use their local shops. Meanwhile I am off to buy a shopping trolley.
