THE Ockment Centre is celebrating Okehampton Carnival Day by holding the first Ockment Arts Festival and Lantern Garden.
The centre is inviting local artists to show their work as well as asking local children to drop in any time from 10.30am to 4.30pm to make a lantern that will decorate the garden at the Ockment Centre.
All the materials to make the lanterns will be provided and all the lanterns will be lit from 4pm onwards. Everyone is welcome to see the garden lit to bring a little bit of carnival to the centre and the garden will stay open until 7pm.
Throughout the day, the centre will feature local artists’ work as well as offer refreshments, and the staff and trustees hope local people will take this chance to see what’s new at the Ockment Centre.
The hall has been completely renovated and is now a great venue for parties and events, the Dartmoor room offers a social space for informal meetings and the garden is somewhere anyone can enjoy during daylight hours in the week.
