A National campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of obesity in men comes to West Devon on June 12. Leisure Connection, which runs Tavistock?s Meadowlands Pool and Okehampton Leisure Centre, is backing the campaign by offering free advice and access to facilities for seven days to men who contact the centres during Men?s Health Week. More than 50% of British men are presently overweight or obese ? a condition which can have a number of life threatening side effects ? and the campaign aims to advise them on how to prevent these weight-related problems occurring. A spokesperson for the group said; ?Men often view fitness as something their wife, girlfriend or sister does, but more and more are realising the benefits exercise can bring.? Leisure Connection hope the week will encourage health conscious males to take advantage of the services on their doorstep. Those who take up the offer will be given a personal assessment to help establish the best course of action to take in improving their health.
