A Brazilian home for the elderly has been given £500 thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff and patients at a nursing home in Mary Tavy. Owners of Blackdown Nursing Home, Connie and Paul Stratton, visited Brazil last year and wanted to help the people they saw. ?It?s a wonderful place but they don?t have the things that we take for granted. The country doesn?t have nursing homes or residential homes ? everyone looks after their own family,? said Mrs Stratton, who is originally from Brazil. ?But those who have no relatives or children can go into a state-run home. They use the money to buy basic things like towels, clothing, bedding and personal things.? Staff and patients raised the cash from events such as raffles and bingo and they were delighted to receive pictures from the people who benefited from their efforts.
