THE second TidyTavy day saw 22 volunteers collect 30 bags brimming with litter. Starting in Pixon Lane, the volunteer groups moved onto the car parking area by King's squash club — the area seems to have been used as a dumping ground for some larger items such as old tyres.

Another group set out to Crowndale, where the first TidyTavy litter pick was held, to maintain all the hard work done only a month ago, continuing around the school and canal path, along the track to Brook Lane and the football field area.

Due to the massive amount of litter picked up around the King's area, local businessman Phil Jarman helped the task by collecting heavy bags of rubbish in his four-wheel drive and taking them to the collection point. Thanks were expressed to him for making the difficult task of moving so much rubbish a lot less challenging.

With interest growing in the community to band together to help keep Tavistock a great place to live, several members of the public expressed their interest on seeing the volunteers picking litter and said they would be keen to help next time. All future TidyTavy days will be held on the first Saturdays in the month, the next being Saturday January 7, meeting at the Wharf at 10am.

Thanks were also expressed to the Wharf as they have been a great supporter of the TidyTavy days, and to County Cllr Debo Sellis for her continued support, both behind the scenes as a councillor and for her work on the Tidy Tavy day itself.

Cllr Sellis said: 'We welcome any and all help and advice and would love to hear if you feel a certain area of Tavistock needs to be tackled.

'As a community our strongest card is ourselves and if people can let us know when and where something needs doing, with your support we can keep Tavistock tidy.'
