TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club began their week looking forward to five scheduled games, only to see their opposition reschedule one match and cancel another. The men?s Evening League team journeyed to Plymouth for a match against a Civil Service team and returned home, having lost 70-91, after winning only one of the four rinks played. Skip Mike Allen led his squad to a 24-18 victory, while skips Ernie Piper (14-19), Norman Paramor (11-23) and Vic Stacey (21-31) all lost. Wednesday saw four rinks of Tavistock players travel to Chagford for a mixed triples match amd return home having lost (56-64) after each side won two of the rinks played. Skip Colin Tremaine and his crew of Barry Chappell and John Timmins notched up a 16-11 victory, thanks to picking up five winning shots over the last three ends of their game. Skip Ernie Piper and his squad of Gordon Northey and Jenny Tremaine won three of the last four ends of their match, to give them a 19-16 victory. Skip Val Southern and her crew of Vic Stacey and Frank Welch went down 10-16, and skip Der Saunders saw his crew lose 11-21 after a game in which his squad won the last five ends to pull back from being 3-21 down. Tavistock?s last game of the week saw the ladies? section travelling to face a strong team at the Plymouth Sir Francis Drake Club and return having been defeated (32-64), after losing both rinks played. Skip Betty Browse and her squad of Joan Northey, Catriona Meek and Hazel Lovell went down 14-38, and skip Sue Silcox and her squad of Henny Bawden, Anne Brown and Shirley Blackburn lost 18-26.
